The first diesel BMW was introduced in 2008, in the X5 xDrive35d and the 335d models.  These are still the two diesel models, but they have been updated with each advancing technology. Using SCR technology, the engines in the cars work to reduce nitric oxides, which ensure full compliance with the emissions standards in every state in the US.  Two years later, BMW Diesel vehicles remain best in their class.

The X5 xDrive36d is a fuel-efficient Sports Activity Vehicle, but performs as well as any other BMW.  Features on the vehicle include: 265 horsepower, 425 lb-ft of torque in 1,750rmp, 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, 26 mpg on the highway and 585 miles per tank.

The 335d BMW sedan features 265 horsepower, 425 lb-ft of torque in 1,750rmp, 0-60 in 6.0 seconds, 36 mpg on the highway and 580 miles per tank.
